I’ve been using a pair of old work boots that I’ve had now for over a decade. I know, I should’ve tried to replace them a long time ago, but hey- I didn’t want the change! These old boots were familiar and comfortable. After all, if I got a new pair of boots, I’d have to go through that “breaking in” period. I just wasn’t up for it. Until yesterday...
My old boots got so old that the sole on the right boot was falling off and my toe was sticking out through a hole in the bottom. The left heel was worn down and the faded black leather now looked grayish brown. It got so ugly that I could no longer pretend that I didn’t need a change.
Because of the condition of these old boots, I found myself walking different than my normal walk. Instead of the boots supporting me the way that they were supposed to, I was changing my walk to compensate for the condition of the boots.
Well, a few people finally noticed and one friend was kind enough to replace them with a brand new pair- For free! Praise God!
With these new boots, I can now walk the way that I was meant to walk. I don’t have to try and compensate for the shortcomings of those old boots. My feet have been given new life and their walk will now represent that. Ahhh, the comfort of a nice new pair!
Our lives are very similar to what I just shared. Sometimes we don’t want to get rid of those old hang-ups of ours because we know that if we do, we’ll be required to make a change. We want to stick with what’s old and what’s comfortable. But the truth is, some of us are walking in ways that God never meant for us to walk.
For others of us, we have the new pair of boots but we haven’t changed our walk. We’re still walking like we had the old pair of boots on.
If you’re still wearing those old boots, why not trade them in for a new pair? God is offering, and His gift is free. You’ll love your new walk.
If you’re already wearing that new pair of boots and you’re not walking like you should, don’t you think that it’s time to walk in the manner that you were meant to?
In either case, give it a try. Your feet will thank you for it.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17
