These thoughts came to me as I was listening to Hillsongs new CD "This is our God." If you have not gotten the CD yet I highly recommend you get it as soon as you can. Now I wouldn’t have called myself a Hillsong fan until recently. I went to a Hillsong United event (They asked us not to call it a concert because they were not there to entertain us but to worship God with us) and it was glorious. Thanks Drick. As I listen to the CD I have to remind myself that it’s not just good music but so much more than that. That is the difference between secular music and Christian music.
The highest level that secular music can obtain is the status of good, even great music. But to worship God through music reaches a level only the Spirit can help you obtain. The genuine tears and the feeling of the Spirit moving through you as you connect with God cannot be matched by anything this world has to offer.
Sometimes I find myself singing along to the songs and it is at that point im just listening to good music. But the other times, and this is a time I want more of, I am either close to tears or completely sobbing as I am connecting with God and both experiencing and reflecting on the love that he pours out on this undeserving wretched soul, who, if any good can be found in him, can only be the result of the power that conquered the grave. And it is in this moment that I am keeping it real.
