Making Plans?

Yesterday I spent most of my day assisting in the planning of an amphibious operation. As you might imagine, such an operation requires the utmost attention to detail. These things are not planned in one sitting, but in many hours, and with much coordination. There are checks, and second checks, even third checks, to ensure that every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed. And yes, that kind of planning can sure be a headache!

Yesterday was one of those days for me. We planned, we changed the planned, we planned again, we changed the plan again. We spent hours upon hours fishing out every conflict in the schedule. We started this planning process early in the morning, and it wasn't agreed upon and finalized until late last night. Finally, all parties involved were in agreement with the plan, and everyone was ready to execute- come sunrise.

Well, sunrise came, and the plan wasn't executed. Why, you ask? While we tried to account for every minute little detail, the weather didn't agree to play with us this morning. The seas were too rough and the Marines on the beach called off what was to be a fun-filled day of amphibious operations for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team.

Life is like that. Plans fall through and sometimes things don't go our way. Usually, this is followed by disappointment and frustration- and it happens to some of us all the time. We can check and recheck every detail, we can make lists, we can create calendars, and we can plan and we can replan- but if your plans aren't in accordance with God's will for you that day, those plans are going to fall through.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with planning at all- it pays to be prepared. But in your planning process, ensure that you include God first. The results from your planning will prove much more fruitful that way. And your planning will result in less disappointment when there is a realization included that God is the real author of your circumstance. Put God first and all else will fall into place.

"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
